Big name gaming operators gobbled up gaming licenses last year in Australia, and an auditor-general’s report now indicates that it was the Department of Justice that was at fault for not creating more of a demand.
Hollywood legend Debbie Reynolds raised an amazing $ 4.6 million for the famed dress that Marilyn Monroe wore during the filming of “The Seven Year Itch,” in a monumental auction where she will auction over 3,500 Hollywood collectibles in Beverly Hills throughout the month of June.
The actress known for her roles in “Singing in the Rain”(1952) and most recently as Grace Adler’s mom in “Will and Grace” has been collecting Hollywood memorabilia for years and according to a recent press release from auction house Profiles in History, her collection “is deemed to be the most significant collection of Hollywood costumes and props since the liquidation of the MGM and FOX studios in the 1970’s.”
The auction is a collector’s dream which includes special costumes from Hollywood classics such as “Gone With the Wind”, “The Sound of Music” as well as the white and blue dress worn by “Dorothy” in “The Wizard of Oz.”
The highlight of the auction so far has been Marilyn’s famed white dress which was only expected to fetch between one to two million and to Reynold’s surprise it earned a grand total of $ 4.6 million – a great start to an auction which will continue throughout December 2011.
For Reynold’s, her collection has become a labor of love which began in the 70’s when she MGM began clearing out their own collection and has since focused her attention on opening her own museum in Tennessee but unfortunately, according to Reuters, the project fell through and she was forced to sell her collection to pay back creditors.
Reynold’s loss was certainly our gain and if you should have at least $ 10,000 rolling around, then you could possibly get your hands on an evening dress worn by Madonna during the filming of “Evita” or even a robe worn by Charlton Heston during the filming of ”The Planet of the Apes.”
